Sarlat, medieval town

In the 15th and 16th,centuries, the city had been rebuilt and beautiful private hotels appeared. The trading  and traditional activities  were expanded and Etienne de La Boëtie came up with new ideas.

The city had kept its panache until the 18th century, then it knew a declining because of its geographical remoteness.

However, this characteristic will be a chance for the city, In 1962, the law concerning the “conservation area” passed by André MALRAUX  and Sarlat Became the “ laboratory city”

During 25 years, restorations had been made and the medieval city appeared once again.

Today, Sarlat is the first city in Europe with 18 buildings listed  as historical mouments   and 59 buildings  registered as a historical monument, over 11 acre. This is a real jewel of the Middle Ages and Renaissance Times.
