Saint Chamassy
This well-preserved village overlooking the confluent of the Vézère and the Dordogne has more than 10 historic dwellings (castles, manors, fortified houses) scattered throughout the commune.
The first you will see on approaching Chamassy from the valley is the castle of Perdigat dating from the 15th century when ‘le Perdigal’ dominated the plain and the river which flows at its foot.
Its geographical position resulted in a rich history as witnessed by the well- preserved Roc de Cayre dolmen. This megalith was studied in 1883 and excavations revealed a headless skeleton and a flint tool. This preserved megalith built entirely of red clay can be seen on the old road.
