SAINT AMAND DE COLY

The abbey, between heaven and earth, watching over the village for so many centuries.
At the crossroads of two wooded valleys, the abbey surrounded by walls, springs and seems to rise to heaven.
The old village roofs Perigord gathers around the big push its ogival porch.

The ochre of the sarladaise stone and the grey of the track stone underline the pureness of the Romanesque architecture. The most beautiful fortified church of Périgord  its existence to Amand, the hermit who evangelized the region in the 6thcentury.

Then, an Augustinian monastery was created, and in the 12th century, under the Abbot William who was the 1st famous Abbot,  began to construct this impressive building. After 2  centuries of prosperity, the Abbey which covered a part of the region knew a decline. The traces of the Hundred Years war,  religion wars and  plunderings can still

 be seen.
