Le Pôle International de la Préhistoire aux Eyzies

The Pôle International de la Préhistoire (PIP) is a cultural public interest group. They work along with the Conseil général of the Dordogne, the Conseil Régional of Aquitaine and The State with the Ministries for the Arts, Education and Tourism.
It is in charge of leading a cultural and tourist development program on Prehistoric times.

Their aim : Development of the sites in the Vézère Valley in order to unveil all these natural treasures to the public.
Communication  aspects are set up to give to the public an easier access to the knowledge and science  of Prehistory as well as to know more about the Human Sciences;
A Centre of bibliographical resources and documentaries was created to range over the prehistoric times in Dordogne - Périgord and all over the world too.

The PIP offers several activities and projects led along with many different partners among which can be found the services and institutions concerned about archaeology and prehistoric times such as the Musée National de la Préhistoire/ the National Museum of Prehistory, centre national de la préhistoire/ National Centre of Prehistory, INRAP... )

Information and documentary resources about Prehistory are available online (from the website) for teachers, students, scientists, and the general public  interested: a Prehistoric catalogue, a numerical library, virtual exhibitions, discoveries and virtual visits of the sites in the Vézère Valley, thematic reports, Press reviews...

-Educative activities for schoolchildren and for the general public, workshops, virtual visits of sites, prehistorian’s presentations , entertainment -debates , training courses.

It is a useful way for the tourist development about Prehistory:  A program such as «  Chemin de la préhistoire », is a way to develop the relations between the sites, make them more popular and to help the tourist professionals to know more about this vast and wide subject: Prehistory.

The Centre d'accueil de la Préhistoire is opened all over the year:

From June, the 15th to September, the 15th

All days from 10am to 6pm


From  September, the 16th to June, the 14th
All days from 11am to 5pm (except on Monday)
