Country of Jacquou the crunch


Made famous by the film from Eugene Le Roy’s novel Jacquou le Croquant Fanlac spreads over a hillside in the heart of the forest Barade.

It is a very typical village with beautiful steep-gabled houses covered with slate acute. On the main square of the village, a picturesque roman church built in the 12th century stands out, a crucifix
dating back to the 17th century, and an old well with worn-out comping because of the buckets’ strings.

The church of Fanlac

The fortified roman church dates back to the 12th century and is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and was reorganised in the 17th century.
It has a bell tower. The Eastern wall is still made of carving stones (from the 15th century) and it represents Jean de La Jalage. He was a defender of Fanlac against the English camp during the Hundred Years’ War, a war during which he lost an arm.
On the West side, toward the nave, there is a sundial.
