Stratigraphic layers over 30 feet high invite you to follow successive prehistoric occupations of the now caved-in shelter. Excavations have unearthed various encampments between 33000 and 18000 BC.
In a part of the shelter which is still intact, the ceiling features an ibex sculpted as a bas-relief. A museum featuring original objects as well as the conclusions of prehistorians (panels, models, reconstitutions...) give an excellent insight into Cro-Magnon's way of life.
